Job Summary:
We are seeking a Principal Software Engineer at our office in Arlington, VA. This is an excellent opportunity to join a dynamic, rapidly growing organization.

Working with government clients, the Federal Professional Services group is actively involved in delivering new verification, identification and surveillance systems. The scale of systems ranges from biometric implementations on embedded systems to national identification systems running on a hundred-plus processor hardware.

The software engineer will architect and implement complete software products or solutions. Code architecture and implementation of applications or modules C#/.Net on Windows or with Java on Windows or Linux platforms. Responsible for the full life cycle of software projects: requirements, architecture, implementation, documentation, deployment, and support.

Essential Job Functions (includes but is not limited to):

  • Responsible for software design, architecture, implementation (Java and .Net), testing, debugging, assurance testing, creation or supervision of documentation, and support.
  • Responsible for integration of biometric technologies in software modules or applications.
  • Provide training and support for partners in the development and deployment of company technology.
  • Designs, defines, and implements system requirements for customers
  • Determines system specifications, input/output processes and working parameters for hardware/software compatibility.
  • Coordinates design of subsystems and integration of total system.
  • Provides technical support during preparation, installation and maintenance.
  • Identifies, analyzes and resolves program support deficiencies.
  • Develops and recommends corrective actions.
  • Understand federal government IT requirements and environments
  • Must be able to obtain a Federal security clearance involving in depth background screening.
    Note: In addition to the Essential Functions, also performs similar work-related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skill and Abilities Preferred:

  • Large scale and distributed solution design skills.
  • Strong code optimization and debugging skills.
  • Can work alone or in small teams.
  • Understanding of the agile software development process.
  • Strong communication and writing skills.
  • Strong computer science or mathematics background.
  • Very strong problem-solving skills.
  • Good presentation skills.
  • Good desktop skills: Word, Excel, Project, E-mail, Powerpoint.
  • Familiarity with Iris, face recognition and/or fingerprint recognition technologies a plus.
  • Familiarity and experience with ABIS on a windows platform a plus.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • BS, MS, or equivalent in a technical field and minimum of 5 years experience in a similar position with extensive architecture development, or a combination of education and experience that would enable performance of the full scope of the position.
  • Experience with the following programming areas: XML/RPC, SOAP, threading, scalable applications, ODBC (or JDBC) database interfaces, network programming
  • 3 – 4 years C# / .NET.
  • 2 – 3 years Oracle database experience.
  • Experience with the installation and support of Windows and Linux operating systems.
  • Experience with version control systems: VSS, CVS, Subversion.
  • Experience in image or multimedia manipulation a plus.

Travel Requirement, Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

  • Office environment where the employee may sit comfortably to do the work.
  • Some walking, standing, bending, reaching, and carrying of light items such as papers, books, small parts; driving an automobile, etc.
  • Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, and other office equipment.
  • Some travel will be required locally and domestically. This should not exceed 25% of the time, but may be more during key projects.
