Post Issuance Glossary

  • Border Crossing
    • WHTI – Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative requires U.S. and Canadian travelers to present a passport or other document that denotes identity and citizenship when entering the U.S.
    • Passport Book – Internationally recognized travel document that denotes a bearer’s identity and citizenship. It is accepted for travel by air, land and sea, per the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative.
    • Passport Card – Convenient, wallet-sized document for land and sea travel between the United States and Mexico, Canada, the Caribbean and Bermuda.
  • Government Issued IDs
    • eIDs – Electronic IDs, also known as smart card.
    • Health & Human Services Cards – Government-issued IDs, typically used for entitlement services such as government services, access to government-provided healthcare, or other applications such as proof of identity when securing food rations or food credits.
  • National IDs and Voter IDs: Secure, government-issued IDs for use in enrolling and identifying citizens and can also serve as voter ID and/or border-crossing card, depending on the configuration.
  • Smart Cards (contactless & contact smart cards) – activation, usage & verification.
