Post Issuance Glossary
- Driver’s License (DL) – Official document which states that a person may operate a motorized vehicle, such as a motorcycle, car, truck or a bus.
- Enhanced Driver License (EDL) – A driver’s license that can also be used as a cross-border travel document to enter the U.S. by land and sea. It denotes both identity and citizenship, per the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI).
- First Responder Access Card (FRAC) – These credentials will standardize the ID that is presented to disaster commanders, keep everyday citizens out of disaster areas and bring better control and coordination.
- Law Enforcement ID – Helps prevent law enforcement imposters and gives other officers and the public assurances that they are dealing with a legitimate law enforcement officer (both active & retired) when presented.
- Passport Book – Internationally recognized travel document that denotes a bearer’s identity and citizenship. It is accepted for travel by air, land and sea, per the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative.
- Passport Card – Convenient, wallet-sized document for land and sea travel between the United States and Mexico, Canada, the Caribbean and Bermuda.
- Voter ID (VID) – Identification confirming the voter’s name and address.
- National ID (NID) – Used by the governments of many countries as a means of tracking their citizens, permanent residents, and temporary residents for the purposes of work, taxation, government benefits, health care, and other governmentally-related functions.
