IBIS Extreme: How It Works
Step 1
- Subject’s photo and forensic quality fingerprints (usually two index fingers, but this can be preset by the agency) are captured on the IBIS Extreme handheld device.
- Auto-capture software maximizes quality of data for search.
Step 2
- The fingerprint data is packaged into a National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) standard record and sent to the Workflow Manager via standard wireless networks (such as CDMA or GSM).
- The Workflow Manager submits the transactions to one or more designated Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) and other databases for matching, including, but not limited to: ABIS® System, third-party AFIS, warrant files, mugshot systems and demographic files.
Step 3
- The Workflow Manager processes the match results.
- If a match occurs, the Workflow Manager retrieves demographics and other information from designated databases, and forwards the identity information – name and date-of-birth – back to the IBIS Extreme handheld device wirelessly. A summarized history, recent mug shot or photo, warrant or watchlist information, and other defined file histories, can also be retrieved.
- If there is no match, the Workflow Manager wirelessly transmits the “NO IDENT” result to the IBIS Extreme handheld. The fingerprint and photo are deleted from the system.
