ABIS® Identity Manager

Enhanced multi-biometric identity platform for civil and criminal identification applications.

The ABIS® Identity Manager, a product in L-1’s ABIS® System Identity Management Suite, is a multi-biometric identity enabling platform that may be used either on its own or with other ABIS® System products to build biometric ID management solutions. It also enables the organization and storage of historical identity records, which contain both biometric and non-biometric images and biographic data. Dynamic, current information about subjects, not captured in the historical records, can also be stored. In addition to images, the ABIS® Identity Manager also provides Gallery Management functions including storage of biometric templates and automatically choosing the best set of template data to be loaded in the Search Engine. Offering a wide range of solution scales – from modest single server systems up to the largest national-scale multi-biometric identity management solutions – it is designed to support record-keeping in civil registration and law enforcement applications.

Identity Management Applications
The basic unit of identity information managed by ABIS® Identity Manager is an Encounter Record. This record may contain face, fingerprint and/or iris biometric images, non-biometric images such as scanned identity documents and biographic and demographic textual data. These data are a record of information captured when a subject has an “encounter” with the identity management system. In civil registration applications, an encounter is typically an application for an identity document. In law enforcement applications, an encounter is an arrest booking.

Record Keeping Functions
The ABIS® Identity Manager naturally organizes Encounter Records by persons and thus its secondary unit of identity information is a Person Record. This record is a logical container for all the Encounter Records collected for that person and contains both historic and current information. This may be anything from simple demographic to more critical, sensitive information.

Gallery Management Functions
Encounter Records also contain the biometric templates extracted from each image that are used in ABIS® Search Engine in biometric identification search-matching. The ABIS® Identity Manager is responsible for supplying the biometric templates to the ABIS® Search Engine for each recorded person.
